Achievement as a mayor of Chaguanas
Question to Former Mayor of Chaguanas Suruj Rambachan from a visitor to the tabaquiteconstituency.com website — What do you consider your five major achievements as a Mayor of Chaguanas?
“One of my key achievements as Mayor of Chaguanas between 2003 and 2009 was the construction of the Chaguanas Town Hall. This building has added tremendous value to the status of Chaguanas. It is interesting that in the last fifteen years or more no specific building has been constructed as a town hall except Chaguanas.
Among the other main projects in Chaguanas during that era were the re-development of Saith Park and the construction of a “beach sand ” volleyball court now used to train for the Olympics.
It was during those years also that we commenced the installation of five play parks and the placing of lights on recreation grounds including New Settlement Ground, Caroni Savannah Road.
The construction of the Pierre Connector Road at the back of the ASJA Complex was another important development as was as getting the Ministry of Works to create a lay bye to enter the town at Factory Road off the Uriah Butler Highway.
I also believe that working with the Rotary Club of Chaguanas in celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Rotary in the town and with the Lions Club distributing 300 wheelchairs were major projects.
But perhaps the researching and publication of the book Contributors featuring over 100 persons whose work contributed to the building of Chaguanas was a significant historical contribution.
