Christmas Greetings from Member of Parliament Surujrattan Rambachan
As the world celebrates the birth of Jesus and reconfirm by way of our thoughts words and deeds the values of Christ, I am left to wonder what happens to all of us after the so described holidays are over. The life of Christ was indeed his message, a very powerful one at that. Had it not been that powerful it would not have continued to inspire us to remember him with such fervor on an annual basis.
That human beings can become so caring, so compassionate, so full of love during this period indicates that the potential for living such values already resides with us all.
Human beings however are also selfish and greedy. They can be predators and because of this aspect of their lives they fall off very quickly from the path of goodness.
And so the season of goodwill prevails if only momentarily. But it brings with it the Hope that man is capable of living the Christ like values which is what will make for a better world.
Look at man’s behavior. He will call a truce and stop the fighting during Eid and for Christmas. He will Ask for forgiveness but will return to the old ways once the season is over.
We need many a Christ to rise amongst us if the birth of Jesus is to truly have meaning and impact.
Blessings to everyone.
