MOWI Responds to Express Editorial “Maintain Road to Chaguaramas”
April 22nd, 2015
Reference is made to the Express editorial, dated 18-04-2015, and entitled “Maintain Road to Chaguaramas”. In this editorial it is written that Minister of Planning and Sustainable Development, Dr. Bhoe Tewarie, indicated that “State entities-including the Ministry of Works are not co-operating with the CDA in putting together its master plan, its representatives failing to attend prior meetings”. It was further stated, “So if the Works Ministry and others are paying no attention to what is laid down in Chaguaramas, what interest do they have in how we get there in the first place”.
The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure (MOWI) wishes to advise the following:
The Director of Highways attended meetings and interviews requested by the CDA with regard to the master plan, as the Ministry is always willing and ready to provide assistance when required.
Routine monitoring of the Western Main Road is executed by the Highways Division and as such there is regular maintenance through patching of the roadway.
The Utilities Department of the Highways Division works closely with all utility companies, including WASA, to regulate their work in the area. In fact during a meeting held with the CEO of the CDA on Monday 26th January 2015, the Director of Highways indicated that re-surfacing of the roadway would be considered upon completion of the many WASA projects.
The Traffic Management Branch of the Highways Division is currently conducting a study to examine solutions to the issue of alleviating traffic in Chaguaramas.
