Rambachan: Golden age for local government
A GOLDEN AGE for local government has been ushered in under the People’s Partnership administration, said Local Government Minister Dr Surujrattan Rambachan.
Rambachan made the statement on Monday night as he addressed the crowd at the People’s Partnership political meeting at Carapo RC school in Carapo. Rambachan said under the People’s Partnership, councillors have been working “24/7”.
“Every (national) budget you get a certain amount of money for the local government corporations…in (the) 2012/2013 (national budget) $228 million was allocated for development works among the 14 regional corporations,” Rambachan said.
Finance Minister Larry Howai delivered the national budget last October.
Rambachan said in less than six months since the budget was read the local government corporations have already begun 80 per cent of their proposed projects for this year.
He described the event as “historic”.
