Rehabilitation Work of Manzanilla Road started
The Minister of Works and Infrastructure, the Honourable Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan wishes to announce that work commenced today, Tuesday December 9th, 2014, on the rehabilitation of the Manzanilla/Mayaro Road. This is in keeping with the Ministry’s focus of reestablishing connectivity to the affected areas in the shortest possible time.
This commencement follows initial assessments of the roadway and environs, which were damaged by the recent heavy rainfall and flooding in the area. Work, in this first phase, is to be carried out by JUSAMCO Pavers Ltd, Coosal’s Construction, and Raghunath Singh & Co. and will encompass approximately three (3) kilometres of roadway from the 63km to 65km marks along the Manzanilla/Mayaro Road. In order to minimize project costs and time, the destroyed onsite road material is to be crushed and reused as part of the reconstruction works.
Motorists are asked to maintain their use of alternate routes at this time, until the reconstruction project is advanced enough for commuting to resume in the area.
The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure thanks the public for its cooperation and wishes to assure the public of its commitment to restoring sound infrastructural works to this major east coast artery.
